The Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa

"From Bush to Pulpit", the late Reverend Morgan Sengwayo founded the Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa (AFMA) ministry in 1955. He and his wife spent all the money they had saved and even sold their furniture to start this ministry. Whilst still in Gwelo, Rev.Sengwayo had a vision where God spoke to him about the beheaded bodies who needed salvation. As Abraham yielded to God’s Calling, God commanded Father Sengwayo to leave, and he trusted and yielded to God’s Calling. The journey proved to be less than smooth.

On the 4th of April 1955, the late Overseer Rev Sengwayo, with his family, started his journey on foot, bound for Bulawayo from Gweru. It was early morning, and they walked about one hundred miles from Bulawayo on foot. They walked without a penny in their pockets. He was carrying a trunk with few belongings, and the late Mrs Sengwayo was carrying Freedom, their son, without a single person to look to for support. After walking for a long time at night, a white missionary drove behind them in pyjamas. He pulled his car to a halt. He stepped out and said he was sent to them by God to take them to Bulawayo. God told him about them as he lay in his bed and sent him to carry them to Bulawayo. They boarded the vehicle and were dropped in Nguboyenja in Bulawayo. When Father Sengwayo arrived in Bulawayo, as the Lord had commanded him, he established the AFMA ministry on the 9th of April 1955.

The desire to tell others of what God had done for Rev Sengwayo grew limitlessly. For most of the time when they first came to Bulawayo, they had no place to stay so they lived in the bush. He approached the authorities for permission to preach, and for three months he struggled with them because they wanted him to produce a theological diploma which he did not have. Finally, they gave him the permission, and though he did not have a house. After journeying to Bulawayo as the Lord commanded him, he established the AFMA ministry there and today the ministry, under our Beloved Overseer and President of the Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa Internationally, Reverend Rosewell Zulu, is propagating at a higher pace to all nations throughout the world. Indeed, the Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa is known as ‘a church without a collection plate.’ This article highlights the blessings that God, through the Holy Spirit, poured in the ministry of the Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa under the leadership of our Founder, Overseer Sengwayo and His predecessors, Rev Sibanda, Rev T Tshuma and our present Overseer R Zulu whom God is using to propagate this gospel following on their footsteps to fulfill their prophecies. God sent His servant Overseer R Zulu with a burning message of redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ which was shed for the remission of sins. The message is being preached with power, under the unction of the Holy Spirit. Our Gospel is ‘A church with an open door and a burning message.’
